ABOUT US

The Society's official name in Greek is "SULLOGOS ZWOFILWN THS KALUMNOU" translating into English as
"Society of the animal friends of Kalymnos". However, we have adopted the English title name of "HANDS OF KALYMNOS".

Below are profiles of our Committee and leading members/helpers.

Babis - Chairperson

Nadine hat den 1. Vorsitz abgegeben und wir haben Babis zu unserem 1. Vorsitzenden gewählt. Babis arbeitet bei der Alpha Bank und neben seinen vielen anderen Verpflichtungen, ist er jetzt auch für unseren Verein aktiv und versucht alles, damit wir endlich finanzielle Unterstützung von der Stadtverwaltung Kalymnos bekommen. Wir wünschen ihm viel Erfolg und möchten uns bei Nadine von Herzen für ihr unermüdliches Engagement zum Wohle der Tiere bedanken. Selbstverständlich "mischt" sie weiter fleißig
mit.

Birgit Möller - Deputy Chairperson

Birgit has worked with Nadine from the the Society's beginning. She too is originally from Germany but now lives on Kalymnos. She does everything she can to help animals in need and provides a loving transitition home for abandoned animals. She is pictured with Pia who has since found a new home in Germany.

Nadine Kambouris

Nadine and Birgit together feel strongly that they are able to change things for the animals of Kalymnos. Nadine is originally from Germany, but now lives on Kalymnos with her Greek husband and their two children. She has dedicated her life to animals and is pictured with Honey, a male cat that was abandoned, but which has now found a wonderful home with Nadine and her family

Popi Pateli - Spokesperson

The Society is thankful to Popi for providing it with a Greek voice. She works tirelessly reporting the Society's messages and aims to the island's people on the local radio and television stations. Already through her spontaneous financial support, she has frequently helped the island's animals. She is pictured (right) with her setter Relos in her daughter Mariana's arms

Theo Kambouris - Press

Theo is Nadine's father-in-law and is responsible for the Society's press and paperwork. In addition, he constantly chases the island's Mayor in order to get aid. He is pictured with Lina who, together with her two siblings, were left near the harbour to drown. After some time in a care home, all three have since found new homes on Kalymnos. Lina now works with a shepherd and his sheep.

Dina- Secretary
Niki hat ihren Posten als Schriftführerin aufgegeben, weil sie mit dieser Aufgabe nicht wirklich glücklich war. Sie hilft lieber tatkräftig den Katzen. Dina, unsere neue Schriftführerin ist von Kalymnos und liebt Tiere sehr. Sie hat schon viel schlechte Erfahrungen mit bösen Menschen gemacht, die ihre Welpen vergiftet haben. Aber Dina gibt nicht auf und unterstützt uns gerne als neue Schriftführerin. Auch ihr wünschen wir eine erfolgreiche Zeit mit uns und bedanken uns bei Niki.

Wolfgang Gleske - Treasurer

Wolfgang is originally from Cologne, Germany, but now lives on Kalymnos with his Kalymnian wife Maria and their two large dogs. Despite our bad financial situation, he does not lose his sense of humour! He is always hopeful for generous contributions to the Society so that he does not become unemployed! He is pictured with Mira who stayed in Wolfgang and Maria's care until going to a new home in Germany

Our helping hands in Germany:

Eva v. Schmidt-Pauli

Eva has already found new homes for many dogs in Germany and will naturally continue her excellent work. She visits Kalymnos twice every year and has a small holiday home in Plati Gialos. She is pictured with Hannibal who she took to Germany with her in October 2004. He was in an accident with a motorcycle and his left paw was paralysed. With much patience, courage and some operations, he can run again, although a little strangely to look at!

Nadine Collmann

Nadine finds new homes for animals in the area from Dusseldorf up to Aachen. She often meets animals arriving from Kalymnos at the airport and later visits them in their new homes. She is pictured with Isa who lives with Birgit Möller on Kalymnos. We are especially thankful to Nadine for creating this wonderful Website voluntarily and free of charge and, for the technical part, Udo Keulen from the co. step-forward IT-Fullservice, this work also being done free of charge.
